Pitfalls - Getting Dojo onto iPhone and Android with PhoneGap

Now that I’ve cut my teeth on web development with my new-ish website, I’ve decided to go dental and start making some phone apps using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. After having played around with jQuery for my website, I realized that the code began to grow to the point where just managing it was becoming a tough issue. For a large app, a framework (and not just a library) is necessary, in my view.

The kRiSiS Arcade

In high school, I had a dream… kRiSiS Arcade Team at the High School Tech Prep Showcase. Well, I had two dreams. One dream was to own my own company. That one hasn’t happened yet. But the other dream, the other dream, was to have my very own Galaga arcade machine. Far-fetched, for sure. Old cabinets were selling on eBay for upwards of $1000, and weren’t guaranteed to work. I couldn’t justify spending that much on essentially one game, especially with a meager near-minimum-wage budget.

Corridors of Time - Chrono Trigger

I got a chance to perform zohar002’s beautiful arrangement of Corridors of Time, from the SNES game, Chrono Trigger. Hope you like it!

davidarvelo.com

This is going to be a long-winded article about how my web portfolio, davidarvelo.com, was created. It’s about to get heavy! Overview In the beginning, I created two domains. davidarvelo.com, and arvelocity.com. One was to be my portfolio, and the other, a blog. Goodness, The Odd Couple theme song is playing in my head now. Anyway, arvelocity was always destined to be my WordPress blog; I had an artistic concept for davidarvelo to literally be a window to my geeky exploits:

So, Guitar Hero Pedal Got Busted

Some time ago, our Guitar Hero kick drum pedal broke under mysterious circumstances. Manufacturers have been known to use the cheapest materials in their designs and this had to be no exception. The wire to the pedal was chewed up beyond recognition; a ghost dog may have become fond of its delicious (?) rubbery taste, but who knows? It’s busted. My dad opened it and tried to repair whatever internal wiring may have been broken, and when that failed he bought a new Rock Band model.

Shevat, the Wind is Calling

My rendition of a piece from Xenogears. Not the best audio signal, but I hope you enjoy.

blastAMP!

I’ve been learning to play piano for a while. In January last year I bought a great starter digital piano, the Casio Privia PX-130, complete with two headphone jacks. The included speakers were a bit underwhelming, but I found that when connecting it to my amp from a headphone jack, it sounded better than babies cooing on Christmas morning. I also use my computer with my amp, and switching the amp from computer input to piano input leaves the volume too low for me to hear the crispness of those faux ivory keys.
